I found a really cool tutorial on VectorTuts+ about the flare tool in Illustrator. These brushes are the result of my experiments based on the tutorial mentioned. There are 10 kaleidoscopic brushes created with Illustrator and Photoshop CS3. These are great for use in backgrounds, flyers, cards, etc since they are large, over 1100px.

The brushes are compatible with Photoshop CS3 and above. They are free to use for both personal and commercial projects. Enjoy!

    Very Nice
How do you get the beautiful multi-colors like your illustration?

  2. admin says:

Glad you like it. The effect is created by adding a gradient overlay to the layer.

Firstly thanks for these amazing brushes, I have had the best time using and playing around with them but I have to say the the first thing that got me in was the one you have up on the screen, being a bit of a rainbow addict and I can’t for the life of me figure out how you achieved it so if it isn’t a trade secret and you wouldn’t have to kill me after telling me ………can you share how you got that brush that colour………..all good if you can’t ……just thought I would ask………..and thanks again for the generosity in the first place..
ps I see your answer above …..but what colour do you do the base brush as I have tried this and nothing gives that intense colour……..

Thanks for the kind words, Jo. How I achieved that effect: well, I made the brush bright red on one layer and then duplicate it. On the second layer I applied the gradient overlay (blend mode – linear light). The second layer’s blend mode is vivid light. That’s it, hope it helped.

thanks admin……….(very odd name)lol….you are a legend and one of the reasons I am enjoying this new community I am finding myself in. Such generosity…just like cooks and gardeners of old if you don’t mind the analogy. I haven’t mastered it but am certainly closer to getting something resembling your lovely creation……it is all such a blast…….thanks again……..Jo
